Granny’s Day at Koncord Academy Was Amazing

As part of our Independence Week celebrations, we dedicated Tuesday, March 4th, to honor the wisdom, love, and traditions passed down by our grandmothers. Granny’s Day was a heartwarming event that brought together our beloved grannies, students, and staff for an unforgettable experience filled with storytelling, cooking, and cultural exchange.

A Day of Storytelling and Cultural Heritage
Our grannies captivated the children with rich folktales, proverbs, and life lessons drawn from Ghanaian traditions. The storytelling session was entertaining and a valuable learning experience, teaching our young ones about patience, respect, and the power of wisdom. It was a rare opportunity for students to connect with history through the voices of those who have lived it.
Cooking Up Tradition in Granny’s Kitchen

A highlight of the day was the much-anticipated Granny’s Kitchen, where our grannies guided the children through the preparation of traditional Ghanaian dishes. From pounding fufu to stirring pots of delicious stews, the children eagerly participated, gaining hands-on experience in the art of local cuisine. The aromas of home-cooked meals filled the air, and the excitement of tasting their own creations made the experience even more rewarding.

A Lasting Impact on All
For our students, it was a day of learning, bonding, and cultural pride. They left with a deeper appreciation for their roots and the wisdom of the older generation.
For our staff, it was a beautiful reminder of the power of mentorship, patience, and community.
For our grannies, it was a moment of joy and fulfillment, seeing their traditions embraced by a younger generation.
As part of our Ghana Independence Week celebrations, Granny’s Day reaffirmed the importance of preserving our cultural identity and passing it on with love. The event was a testament to the values we uphold at Koncord Academy—respect, heritage, and lifelong learning.
We look forward to making Granny’s Day an annual tradition! 💛✨ #GrannysDay #IndependenceWeek #KoncordAcademys
